Flynn Creek Circus

Amelia is absolutely honored to be fulfilling a lifelong dream of running away with the circus! And not just any circus: Flynn Creek Circus.

Flynn Creek Circus was founded in 2002 by Blaze Birge and Nick Schwartz. Gathering talent from multiple artistic genres, the show began with a firm foundation in circus production but also featured strong musicians, actors and visual artists. Some of the original contributing cast members included: Peter Adeney, Samantha Bird, Emily Park, Tony Camarda, Carl Donavan, Jaron Hollander, David Jones, Nettie Lane, Henry Ledyard, Jeff Laughlin, Mike Luperello and many other fine artists. After several years, Nick Schwartz left the circus to focus exclusively on Flynn Creek Pottery. About the same time in 2006, Blaze Birge and David Jones took their first outside contract with their double trapeze act ‘Daring Jones Duo’.

Since then Flynn Creek Circus has persevered as an events’ based production company and continues to offer opportunity to artists.
Flynn Creek Circus has influenced the advent of several new arts organizations in the Mendocino County area including: Mendocino Center for Circus Arts, Stars and the Mendocino Dance Project.
Our mission is to radically inspire audiences by demonstrating disciplined artistic and athletic risk.
We pride ourselves on a commitment to innovation and a tradition of quality. Customized services ranging from single acts to full scale entertainment productions are our specialty. Please contact us for more information on how we can contribute to your event!

TICKETS: $20 - $35 http://buckowhaleman.bpt.me/

Bucko: Whaleman! Meet John Bucko, a monomaniacal and scurvy spirit from the sea with a penchant for skylarking on political scuttlebutt, singing tawdry chanteys and killing whales. Live on the salt edge of adventure! Come join the slaughter! Set in the heart of San Francisco's historic maritime center, this site-specific original production uses the provocative humor of bouffon* to investigate religion, natural resource consumption, racism and privilege in maritime history and juxtapose these subjects with our modern times.
*A form of grotesque satirical physical theatre in which characters on the outskirts of society use subversive humor and ecstatic play to highlight ignored or marginalized issues.

Antic in a Drain combines circus, clown, bouffon and improvisational audience interaction, developing extreme characters and telling stories from the fringes, igniting dialogue and change within communities around ignored or taboo social issues.

Recommended for audiences age 14+ for violence, explicit language, and sexual content.

Hyde Street Pier is located in San Francisco Maritime National Historic Park at 2905
Hyde Street, San Francisco, CA (At the intersection of Hyde and Jefferson Streets.) This show is site-specific on a concrete pier and there is no traditional seating. Please bring blankets, collapsable chairs or cushions for sitting as well as warm layers for there's no telling what weather may come on this voyage.

Bucko: Whaleman! is Antic in a Drain's most ambitious project to date. It is generously funded in part through an Individual Artist Grant from the San Francisco Arts Commission and a Zellerbach Family Foundation Grant.

Edwardian Ball - SF

Amelia will perform Friday, January 20th with Fou Fou Ha! and Saturday, January 21st with Vau de Vire Society.

-----------------------------------------------------------

Nigh impossible to describe, but absolutely delightful to experience. The Edwardian Ball is an elegant and whimsical celebration of art, music, theatre, fashion, technology, circus, and the beloved creations of the late, great author and illustrator Edward Gorey.

Set in a re-imagined “Edwardian Era,” this multi-city, multi-media extravaganza has grown over the past seventeen years from an underground club party into an internationally recognized festival of the arts, now operating with the blessing of The Edward Gorey Charitable Trust.

Attendees traveling from across the nation and from all corners of the globe flock to this West Coast celebration for a delightful blend of ballroom dancing, live music, riveting stage shows, DJs and dancing, fine art installations, an award-winning vendor bazaar, mystical and nonsensical oddities, absinthe cocktails, steam machinery, parlour games, alluring sideshows, and much more. All ages are welcome and appropriate in this darkly humorous and elegant setting, where literary aficionados rub elbows with chimney sweeps, where the sensual meets the bizarre, where historically accurate Edwardian re-creationists waltz through the steam-powered tea garden… where the only guiding rule is that you join in on the fun!

The Spaghetti Monologues

The Spaghetti Monologues

Amelia will be performing a brand new devised piece, "The Lady of Bogochar" in "The Spaghetti Monologues"

"No, this IS NOT Vagina Monologues in spaghetti! Albeit, the lead performers own vaginas. No, this show is something . . . else, of the like you've never witnessed in your adult life. This, my friends, is a balanced meal of ridiculous proportions. Join us on a Tuesday evening to enjoy the finger-licking courses we have in store.

Women swimming in irreverence of deities, homages to the past, transport gone wrong, complications of love and lust, relatable predicaments and sauce - lots of sauce. The weirdest meal you'll ever experience!

MENU:
Apertif: Opening Invocation; "Not Your Mom's Chicken Soup" read by Aaron Simunovich
Wine throughout Dinner: Music by Karen Penley; 'Shitty Little Feelings in a Pretty High Voice'
Soup and Salad: Born Again in Sauce; "Welcome to Life" read by Christina Linksey
First course: Spaghetti a la Cilla; "Pavement Crossing" by Edna Mira Raia
Second Course: Spaghetti a la Russa; "The Lady of Bogochar" by Amelia Van Brunt
Third course: Spaghetti de la Mer; "Chloe and the Big Blue" by Edna Mira Raia
Dessert: Ode to Josephine Baker; "A Food Lover's Dance" by Christina Linksey

Spaghetti Monologues began as a photo shoot idea, but a show manifested to use this amount of pasta to its full potential. "Hold Onto Your Hats!" You've never seen this much spaghetti!
Concerns: Inappropriate imagery? Yes. This is an 18+ show. There will be nudity. Waste? No. All spaghetti is locally composted in a friend’s garden which feeds masses of people. Hunger? Spaghetti will be available to eat for a small fee, or off of the bodies, under discretion of artists, for a seasoned donation. Seating is limited. Buy your tickets now!"

"SHOW HO" Special Guest Clown Performance

"SHOW HO" Special Guest Clown Performance

Amelia will be performing as special guest following Sara Moore's "SHOW HO!" performance for ONE NIGHT only, accompanied by the CLUBFOOT ORCHESTRA. Amelia will perform to the orchestra playing from Buster Keaton's "Go West."

"Please come celebrate the entire clown community and my recent, very humbling and exciting appointment as the new Director of The Clown Conservatory here at San Francisco's Circus Center. As a clown who honors the incredible history of circus & physical comedy in our fair city I am over the moon with pride and excitement to "pied piper" this new era of Human Cartooning.

In SHOW HO I play an entire circus! It's mad fun and a real character-morphing smackdown. This is the last time I will be doing this show and it's ONE NIGHT ONLY, you guys. So please come!

Tickets are $20-$35 and you can find them here: http://www.zspace.org/new-work/show-ho

Directed by Andrew Jordan Nance
Music by Marc Ream
Lighting by Christian Mejia
Sound by Sharon Boggs
Stage Managed by Lori Fowler
Produced by Thrillride Mechanics & Debbie Mosk Productions

I'm dedicating this performance of SHOW HO to the fantastic family of San Francisco Clowns to which many of us belong. The Bay Area has long been the nucleus and soul of new American circus/vaudeville, launching the careers of many brilliant clowns like Bill Irwin, Geoff Hoyle, Joan Mankin, Larry Pisoni, Diane Wasnak, Robin Williams and many others. SHOW HO is a love letter to the resilience of humor through loss; with the many heartaches befalling our clown community in recent years, SHOW HO is testament to the inspiring legacies of those San Francisco clowns who have gone on, and to the spirited passion of those who remain.

Members of CLUBFOOT ORCHESTRA with Richard Marriott are kindly playing some of their score to Buster Keaton's "Go West."

And the wonderful Beaver Bauer will be displaying three of her designs for characters from THE SUPERS in the lobby!

And there will be PIE and DONUTS and BOOZE.

And lots of good cheer and merry-making before, in the middle and afterwards too."

The theater named after legendary actor/director/teacher Jean Shelton who came to San Francisco in 1961 from New York where she brought back an extensive knowledge of the art and craft of acting. Her husband, the late Robert Elross, was a leading arts figure having worked with Dave Brubeck, roomed with aspiring comic Woody Allen in the 50’s in North Beach and directed and founded many local theaters here in the Bay Area. Among the many shows he directed was the West Coast premiere of The Crucible with the legendary Actors Workshop in San Francisco in 1956 with producers Herbert Blau and Jules Irving; both went on to found the Lincoln Center in New York.
